Meena Matocha

American, b. Austin, Texas 1977

Lives and works in Pflugerville, Texas

Matocha uses oil, charcoal, acrylic and wax to create large-scale paintings, combining abstraction and figuration, exploring themes of grief, the passage of time and encounters with the metaphysical realm.  Matocha earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, focus on painting and drawing from The University of Texas at Austin in 2000.  After a long break during which time she lived overseas serving with a non-profit organization, Matocha returned to her native home of Austin, Texas where she now makes art full time.  Matocha had her inaugural solo show in 2017 at the Asian American Resource Center in Austin,TX and has exhibited at Big Medium Gallery in Austin, TX, Austin Art Space in Austin, TX, Round Rock Art Space in Round Rock, TX, The Open Doors Gallery at Hill Country Bible Church in Austin, TX, and EAST and WEST Austin Studio Tours in Austin, TX.  Matocha is curating and exhibiting in a show made up of artists living in Pflugerville, Texas this summer, 2018, at the Pflugerville Public Library.  Her work is held in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
